What I tell every author I work with is this: you're in the driver's seat. As an editor, I'm sitting in the passenger seat, holding a map and giving you options on how you can proceed, but ultimately, this is your story and the choices about it are yours to make.
Editing is almost as subjective as writing. No two editors will read a work and develop the same feedback. While I hope you'll find my feedback helpful, my editorial opinion is not law, and you're not obligated to implement it or even agree with it. It is yours to do with as you please.
