An editorial letter is a detailed document of high-level, developmental feedback on your manuscript. It covers big-picture elements like characters, plot, structure, pacing, worldbuilding, and themes. It's not line-by-line editing, instead, it helps you understand what's working, what could be stronger, and how you might approach revisions.
Once we agree to work together, you'll send me your completed manuscript. I'll read it thoroughly, take notes, and then write your editorial letter. The letter is divided into sections that focus on specific elements of your story. I always begin with what I think is working well, and I recommend reading the letter in order. After you've had time to digest it, we can discuss any questions you have.
Turnaround time depends on the length of your manuscript and my current workload. I'll give you a timeframe estimate when we discuss your project. I always aim to be transparent about my schedule.
I accept manuscripts as Word documents (.doc or .docx) or Google Docs. Standard manuscript formatting is preferred but not required, the most important thing is that the text is readable.
Absolutely not. All of my suggestions and recommendations are yours to take on board or set aside as you see fit. The story belongs to you, and you should do whatever you feel is best for it. My job is to give you options and perspectives, the decisions are always yours.
Yes. Your manuscript and our correspondence are treated with full confidentiality. I will never share your work or discuss it with anyone without your explicit permission.
I primarily work with fiction, especially science fiction, fantasy, and genre-blending stories. Check my manuscript wishlist for more detail, and feel free to reach out if you're unsure whether your project is a good fit.
At this time, I'm only offering editorial letters for novels. My letters focus on the big-picture developmental elements of your story. If you're looking for line editing, copy editing, or proofreading, I'm happy to point you in the direction of other editors who offer those services.
