Sample Editorial Letters

Below are anonymised excerpts from past editorial letters, shared with permission. They give you a sense of my style, depth, and tone.

Sample 1: Fantasy / Sci-Fi Novel

Excerpt from the Characters section

As clearly defined as this character is, her characterisation primarily centres around the fact that her husband was killed, she was assaulted, she has become bitter and cynical, and she undertakes a quest for revenge. While these are certainly huge things that would naturally affect who a person is, in many ways it doesn't feel like enough, it was difficult for me to get a real sense of her past and who she is pre-story.

There are certain things I never really felt like I had a firm grasp on, and things I would have liked to know or at least get a sense of, for the sake of both her characterisation and the worldbuilding of the story.

Sample 2: Superhero / Speculative Fiction Novel

Excerpt from the Vanity Q&A section

Your characters: I adore them. You did an especially great job of getting me to sympathise with both sides of the initial conflict. "Who's going to win, here?" I wondered, intensely. "Because I need it to somehow be all of them."

I admire and appreciate how you are both unflinching and thoughtful in how you approach the difficult topics and ideas the story is engaging with. The themes of justice, responsibility, and personhood are powerful, the way you illustrate them is refreshing, and the story never loses those threads.
